TRS surcharge increased slightly on 1/1/03

On September 18, 2002, the Nebraska Public Service Commission ordered that telephone companies increase the Nebraska Telecommunications Relay System (TRS) surcharge from $.06 to $.07 per month for each residential and business access line. This change took effect on January 1, 2003. The TRS surcharge is used to fund phone service for deaf, hard of hearing or speech disabled people with its 7-1-1 number.

Equipment costs and the number of new households applying for the program's services are behind the increase in the surcharge. The charge is only in effect for the first 100 lines owned by each customer. Click here for more information on the Nebraska Telecommunications Relay System.
